Cathy Rich’s Spring Update

Welcome everyone...I have some updates, info, and new products for you.

We are in the home stretch on the Channel One DVD, we hope to have it ready by early May. I just saw the cover art and it is beautiful. This is a superb project, and Steve Michelson, my co-producer, has outdone himself again. The good news is that this DVD will be in much wider distribution. You will see it Blockbuster, Virgin, and all the major chains!! YAY! Lightyear is the distribution company and they will also release the West Side Story set in the same venues. We love them.

Two new Buddy's Buddies CD are just about to be released. The same cast of characters are involved. Steve Smith, Steve Marcus, and Andy Fusco, along with Baron Browne, and Mark Soskin. It was recorded live at Ronnie Scotts club in London last summer. Be sure to check it out. Set One will be out any minute! Special thanks to Mike Varney.

The movie is on track, our screenwriter Colman DeKay, is readying his script, and with any luck at all, we will be on our way to production later this year. I will keep everyone up to speed on this one. The education I have gotten about the movie industry is invaluble..I have to mention my attorney and friend Daniel Siegel, who has fought the good fight for me on many occasions. He has done so once again and I want him to know how much I appreciate his friendship and integrity!

If you are in Las Vegas or planning a trip, run do not walk to the Bellagio hotel to see Jimmy Hopper. He is one of the great performers of our time. I can't say enough about him and his incredible band. I go to see them at least once a month and it's better every time. I have invited Jimmy's drummer, Jamie Borden to take part in this years Buddy Rich Memorial concert. His playing is spectacular. Check out their website JimmyHopper.com!

There is so much talent in Las Vegas, it's scary. Go see the Steven Lee Band also at the Bellagio, with my dear friend Adam Shendal on drums. This is another great band with amazing players.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the brand new Sam Ash Mega Store in Las Vegas. Check out Steve Arnold and his crew at this beautiful new store. They have everything and then some! Maryland Parkway between Sahara and Desert Inn!

I am also working with Don Lombardi of DW Drums on a video project about Buddy. This will be an educational video that actually breaks down, in slow motion, the techniques that Buddy used. (He didn't know they were techniques because they were natural for him.) I have seen some footage and narration and this will prove to be an amazing video. It will probably be ready to go by year's end.

The winner of the Trivia Contest is Carlton Weiss of Ohio! Congrats on your quick reply! The correct answer is... An XKE Jaguar! I think that one was too easy. I'll have to come up with harder questions for the next one!

Have a great Spring and I will update soon!

Support our troops in Iraq, and let's pray they come home safe and soon!

Buddy Rich featured in a discriminating new line of memorabilia

"The greatest drummer ever to have drawn breath," Buddy Rich, earned his kudos without formal training or practice outside of performances. In over 70 years, he wowed audiences including great spectators such as the Queen of England, three U.S. Presidents and King Hussein of Jordan. Immensely gifted, Rich could play with remarkable speed and dexterity despite the fact that he never received a formal lesson and refused to practice outside of his performances.

It was for these and many other reasons that Buddy Rich came to mind when established high-end memorabilia provider ProTour Memorabilia wanted to launch an exciting new division of products. After successfully securing their position as the exclusive licensee for PGA Tour framed memorabilia, ProTour has diversified into a wide range of framed celebrity display pieces.

ProTour has jumpstarted their new line by harnessing the demand for memorabilia dedicated to many of the worlds greatest legends. In addition to the drummer Buddy Rich, these personalities include other innovative musicians such as Buddy Holly and Ella Fitzgerald. Also featured are entertainment favorites Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, sports immortals Babe Ruth, Rocky Marciano and Arthur Ashe, and historical figures General George S. Patton, Jr. and Amelia Earhart.

Each framed piece is double matted and may include elements such as a candid photograph, biography, brass nameplate and an engraved or facsimile signature reproduction. As an added service to their customers, ProTour will also engrave the memorabilia free of charge. These items will be available worldwide, with retail prices starting at $49.99 USD.

Cathy Rich Summer Update

Welcome to my summer (almost Fall) update, sorry it has taken so long! There is a lot of news, so here goes!

The most recent DVD, The Channel One Suite is now out and doing very well. The reviews have been nothing short of glowing. (see below) As of today you will be able to purchase it here as well. The Collectors Edition is in production and will be available within the next two months. It will feature an hour long Steve Smith commentary, plus bonus clips of Buddy and Johnny Carson.

We have spent the past few months working on concepts for this site to make it more exciting. Within the next few months there will be many new features which may include live interviews, footage and entire performances, not only of Buddy, but other great players as well. We are sending out a call to all of you with unusual or never before seen audio and/or video of Buddy to send it in to us, and if it chosen you will receive a credit and a $50.00 gift in the Buddy Rich store. Please contact Steve Arnold at 702-845-8680 to discuss what you have available.

We are currently looking for a property in Las Vegas that will house the very first (or 2nd) Buddy's Place. The venue will include a retail store, educational facility, soundstage for performances and video shoots, and a recording studio. This will be a totally unique venue unlike anything that already exists!

We are looking to release new CD's and performances, but we must time things accordingly as to not flood the market. I appreciate all of your comments and concerns and we try to address them all. Look for new product to be coming out soon. The Practice Pad is doing extremely well and I want to thank you all for supporting all of our new product. The one thing I have learned over the years is that nothing happens quickly. Which leads me to the movie....the first draft of the treatment was approved, so we now move on to the script. It should be ready for a read through by mid-September. As my dear friend Miguel Ferrer so eloquently put it, "Let's make this F@#& 'ing movie before I'm the same age that Buddy was when he passed away!"

Steve Peck is readying a poster of Buddy that will retail for $19.95 We are choosing the photo now and expect it to be out before the holidays.

Two new Buddy's Buddies CD's are now available here, they were recorded last year at Ronnie Scott's club in London. See the reviews below!

Thank you to those of you who wrote and told me that you heard my recording of The Beat Goes On as the promo for HBO's new season. That's the second time this year it has been used in an ad campaign on television, the first was JC Penny. Cool.

Our dear friend and owner of DW Drums, Don Lombardi, promises me that we will be doing a Memorial concert this year. I cant elaborate because we are twisting his arms to get this done. It's been too long between shows and I want to do one while I can still walk upright!! He is also moving forward on an incredible educational video on Buddy's playing, which previewed and is amazing. But patience, once again, is a virtue I am hoping to have more of one day.

We are also heavily concentrating on new artists for our management company. We hope to preview some of these artists here in the upcoming months. We are looking for unsigned bands and singers, so if this is you or you know an extremely talented person or group, of any musical style, contact Steve Arnold at the number above.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my son's band Nosho...they are currently in the studio and I will have some of their music available for you to download soon. He is playing better than ever, and is undeniably following in his grandfather's footsteps. He is an incredible young musician! Check out their website at Nosho.com! Nick is a current endorsee of Zildjian cymbals and sticks, DW Drums, and Aquarian heads.

Thank you again for your patience and patronage....I greatly appreciate it. I won't wait so long next time.

Scabeba Entertainment Acquires the Film and Television Rights to Neil Peart’s Biography “GHOST RIDER”

Originally published on http://www.prweb.com.

Neil Peart internationally best-selling author, lyricist and Hall of Fame drummer for the legendary band "RUSH" gives rights to his bio "GHOST RIDER" to Buddy Rich's daughter Cathy.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) -- Cathy Rich, daughter of legendary jazz drummer Buddy Rich has acquired the film and television rights to produce the Neil Peart bio "GHOST RIDER" through her production company Scabeba Entertainment. The Drainie-Taylor biography prize finalist was also chosen as one of the five most exceptional biographies of the year.

Neil Peart, internationally best-selling author, lyricist and Hall of Fame drummer for the renowned rock band RUSH, is the most successful band in Canadian rock music. RUSH has recently made history by becoming the first band to celebrate 30 years together with the original members and they are currently on the RUSH 30th Anniversary World Tour.

"GHOST RIDER" is a bold, brilliantly written, intense, exciting, and ultimately triumphant narrative memoir from a gifted writer and musician, who started out as a man reduced to trying to stay alive by staying on the move. Within a ten-month period, Neil Peart suffered family losses so devastating that they left him a ghost, physically a man, but with nothing.

Rich states that she is "thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to collaborate on such an inspiring story of personal triumph". Rich and Peart became friends in 1992 when Neil appeared on the Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship concert, in his first foray outside of RUSH. They also collaborated on the Grammy-nominated CD's "Burning for Buddy", parts 1 and 2.

Scabeba Entertainment is currently in pre-production on the life story of Buddy Rich, produced by Steven Soderbergh and Miramax Films.

Cathy Rich Winter Update

Hello Everyone

Please forgive the long delay in updates, but we have been very busy with all things regarding Buddy!

Be sure to check out the new Buddy products for sale now in the store, including the Collectors Edition DVD's and the No Funny Hats CD!

The new Buddy Rich line of drums will be introduced at the January NAMM show in Anaheim California. They will be made by DW Drums, in my opinion, the finest drum manufacturer in the world. We will be shooting for a Buddy Rich Memorial Concert in Los Angeles at the House of Blues, also in association with DW. This event will also be the premier performance of Buddy's grandson Nick playing with the band. Nick is also busy playing drums and singing in his band 7 Day Holiday. He is also working on an instructional DVD for release late next year.

The Buddy Rich movie has been scripted and we are now looking at possible directors for the project. Steven Soderbergh is still on board as Producer.

On January 31st at the new Lincoln Center Jazz venue in New York City, there will be the worlds largest and most prestigious auction of jazz memorabilia. John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Buddy will be well represented. Guernsey's auction house is putting on the event.

Although it has been a slow process, we hope to add new features to this site by the first quarter of 2005. More details will follow as we get closer.

If you are going to be in the Las Vegas area between December 22 and January 3rd, check out the new band Phoenix that will be performing an exclusive engagement at the Bellagio Hotel's Fontana Lounge. The band features Jimmy Crespo on guitar (formerly of Aerosmith and Rod Stewart), David Ragsdale on Violin (formerly of the band Kansas), as well as drummer Jamie Borden, who recently released the top selling DVD Rush: a step by step breakdown of Neil Peart's drum grooves and fills, soon to be available here in our store, singer /percussionist Tony Davitch, vocalist Danielle Bell, and keyboardist Brian Hicks round out this incredible band! Check them out if you can.

I will update you again in January (really!) In the meantime have a great Holiday season!

PS We have a limited supply of Buddy Rich Downbeat shirts in both long and short sleeve, email me @ scabeba1@aol.com if you are interested.

Thank you as always for your continued love and support of Buddy.

Cathy Rich Spring Update

Hi everyone....as promised, I am updating in a timely manner! There is a lot going on, so I will get right to it.

Our new CD release "No Funny Hats" is doing extremely well, thank you to all who have purchased it. We will be releasing more new material later in the year.

The most recent exciting news is that we will be releasing a line of lower end Buddy Rich Junior kits in the Fall. This is more for children and beginners. We are very thrilled that this is happening for the Holiday season. More on this in my next update.

The high end DW kits will also be out this Fall.

The BR Collectors Series snare drum was unveiled at the NAMM show in Frankfurt, and is now available. Check your local drum shop or log on to www.DWDRUMS.com for more info on where to purchase.

The new BR/DW Practice Pad with bonus DVD, will be available in our store, and musical instrument stores very soon.

We are still planning a BR Memorial/DW show in Los Angeles this year. Check back as we get more info.

We are also going into the studio this year to do an educational package. This will be a music minus one project that will include charts. Buddy's favorite arranger John La Barbara will be helping on this one. Congrats on your Arranger's Award John. It was great seeing you the other night!

Check out the latest issue of Jazz Improv Magazine. I was interviewed last year by the editor Eric Nemeyer, and I think it's one of the best interviews I have done. Thanks Eric. Later in the year, the magazine will be devoting the cover story to Buddy! It's a great magazine for anyone interested in music and/or jazz.

One of the many great things about living in Las Vegas, is the constant stream of talent passing through on various tours. I love getting to see my touring friends when they come to town. BUT, the other great thing about Vegas is the local talent...the people that live and work here on a nightly basis. I am so fortunate to be able to call these people friends...as well as getting to see them work. If you are planning a trip to LV, the short list I am about to give you are MUST SEE'S!!

Clint Holmes at Harrah's...Clint is a multi talented singer, dancer, producer, writer, and actor. He appears nightly in the Clint Holmes Showroom (good name) He is a wonderful person as well as a kick ass entertainer. Great band, great charts, just great! I love you Clint! Check out his web site www.clintholmes.com.

The Scinta's at the Rio...their show is non stop...music, comedy, impressions...it's all there..Frankie, Chrissy and Joey are phenomenal entertainers.. and Pete O'Donnell is a great drummer! Nightly in the Scinta Showroom.

Gordy Brown at the Golden Nugget...Gordy is a madman who is one of the most talented people I have ever seen. He sings, dances, plays guitar, does incredible parodies and impressions...plus he has Adam Shendal on drums so you cant go wrong!

Gladys Knight at the Flamingo..what can you say..she sounds better than ever and has a great band behind her. What a voice! She does all the hits!

My new best friend Kelly Clinton is the Entertainment Director and also the headliner at the Stirling Club at the Turnburry...Kelly sings, is a great comedienne, and has one of the most fun shows in Vegas. You never know who is going to show up and sit in..last night it was Jack Jones, Clint Holmes, Frankie Scinta, and a Tom Jones impersonator! That's Vegas!

Phoenix at the Bellagio...A&R Management clients Phoenix, resume their tenure at the Fontana Lounge in the Bellagio on May 8th. They have spent the past month at Noise Studio's with producer extraordinaire Pat Caddick, recording their first CD. It will be available here and on their web site www.phoenix2005.com later this summer..I will be celebrating my 22nd birthday with them on May11th!

My mother Marie has been in town for the past three weeks and we have partied non-stop. She says that it's great to be back in show business....she hasn't been in anyone's dressing room since Buddy died!! Now that's funny! I hope she goes home soon because I can't keep up with her...I haven't slept in weeks. We have had a blast. Love you Mom!

Lastly, I must congratulate my son Nick, who got called to play Hugh Jackman's show for the Grand Opening of the new Wynn Hotel. Last night, April 30th, he played before President's Clinton and Bush Sr., and every celebrity in the world. He was amazing! I am so proud of him! Great job Nicko!

That's it for this month..I hope you all have a great Spring! Thank you again for supporting this site and remembering Buddy!

email me at Scabeba1@aol.com!

Cathy Rich Fall Update

I cant believe it is September already! Buddy's birthday is September 30th and we are celebrating with Phoenix at the Railhead inside Boulder Station! Come join us if you are in Vegas! www.phoenix2005.com. . Jamie Borden and company will once again be rocking the socks off the crowd. They just keep getting better and better if that's possible. Check their site for all of the upcoming dates. So there, Jamie!!

There are a lot of exciting events this month, Nick is turning 21 on the 21st! I am in shock...it seems like he was just a little boy crawling around the stage waiting to sit on Buddy's lap! Time flies. Nick is an artist in his own right now. Happy Birthday, my beautiful son!

The new version of the the lost "West Side Story" tapes is being released on October 14th. We had a slight problem and had to rename it THE LOST TAPES. It's the same set, just with a different name. It will be available in the store soon.

I know I have mentioned this before, but they go so fast. I just found another cache of Buddy Downbeat T-shirts. There are a limited number of Black shirts and Grey shirts, all with long sleeves (perfect for the cold weather ahead), they really are a great quality shirt with a fantastic photo and quote on the back. If you are interested, email me directly at Scabeba1@aol.com. They are $40.00. L, XL, and XXL.

I have had a lot of inquiries about a "Minus One" type CD. We actually are working on it now for release next year. The first one will be minus the drums, then we will do a series, with different instruments being left out to play along with. They will have charts and a DVD as well. It is in the planning stages with hopefully Steve Smith and Dave Weckl participating.

I was interviewed recently for a new book coming out this Fall on the life of Johnny Carson. A wonderful writer, Bill Zehme, who also wrote the profile on Johnny in Esquire magazine is the author. Check it out.

A&R Management are finalizing a deal to bring Andrew "Dice" Clay to the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas for 8 nights in October. If you have never seen him, you don't know what you are missing. He is without a doubt one of the funniest people on the planet. He is a also a drummer, as is his 15 year old son, Max! He is a huge fan of Buddy's, which is how we met and became friends! If you are going to be in Vegas, come see the show. Dates to follow.

There will be a cover story on Buddy in the March issue of Jazz Improv magazine, as well as a 25 page spread with never before seen photos by Buddy's long time road manager Steve Peck, later this year. It promises to be unforgettable.

We are still trying to get the low end drum line up and running, they should be ready by the end of the year.

The high end DW line is also slated for release by Christmas.

Trivia Question! First correct answer wins a copy of No Funny Hats!

Who did Buddy think should play him if a movie was ever made on his life??

Have a great Fall season. Thank you for supporting this site, and remembering Buddy!

From Cathy Rich

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Steve Marcus. Steve played with my father for 12 years and continued to play with the band every time we did a memorial concert or a recording. Steve was not only a member of the band, but a dear friend who will be missed more than words can say. Our love and prayers go out to Elenore and Holly and all of Steve's friends and family. He will forever be in our hearts!

Cathy, Steve , Marie and Nick
