CMG Baseball legends Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Jackie Robinson and Rogers Hornsby will be featured and honored in the upcoming Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame in downtown Louisville, Ky.
This public art project will be funded by baseball bat makers Hillerich and Bradsby Co. and will feature bronzed replicas of the player?s baseball bat models. In addition to the bronze bats will be bronze home plates, which will note each individual player?s accomplishments. The exhibit will span from the Louisville Slugger Museum all the way down West Main Street to the Louisville Slugger Field on East Main Street.
"In addition to being an honor to the players, we wanted to make this unique, to make it art," Hillerich and Bradsby Co. president and CEO John A. Hillerich IV said. "The bats will be attached to the sidewalks and lean against buildings, park benches, lamp posts and planters."
The first and original honorees in the Walk of Fame will be Pete Browning, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. Additionally, Lou Gehrig, Hank Greenberg, Stan Musial, Roberto Clemente and Dot Richardson will be added this fall.
